What are you doing for NEDAW?

February 12, 2013

When I first realized I might be bulimic, I read about it in a magazine. I had never heard about bulimia before, but everything described in that article was exactly what I did except one thing, I didn’t throw up. But I was diagnosed with bulimia—a non-purging bulimic. I was one of many who used other methods such as diet and excessive exercise, laxatives and more to control the weight gain from inhaling a horrific amount of food at one time.

Stressed out Students in the Greek Community

February 8, 2013

There is a lot of emphasis on drug and alcohol abuse, but not early enough focus on what is causing it…the stress caused by the desire to fit in, or numb out and hide. The manifestation of the stress can lead to drug and alcohol, it also leads to eating disorders, cutting, promiscuity, abusive relationships and more. This isn’t a single path these students are following. They head in whatever direction feels good when they don’t.

February 6, 2013

What do you think when you look in the mirror? Do you smile and feel good about yourself, or do you curl your lip and snarl back at what you see? How you respond to what you see in the mirror has a strong impact on your life, whether you realize it or not. And after all, it’s only the wrapper you came in.

Girl Power: Key to guiding young girls in the right direction

January 29, 2013

As if the typical struggles through adolescence and college years aren’t enough (puberty, body image issues, feeling self-conscious around your friends and being bossed around by adults) now there is technology which provides a huge layer of distraction for young girls (and boys). Kids aren’t developing healthy communication skills because everything is hidden behind a text or Facebook message.
