It’s been an interesting week. A fidgety one for me. Maybe it is knowing that come Sunday the daylight and days are longer.
I thrive in the sunlight! The dogs get longer walks, we play more outside and have more visits running free at their newest love; Sniffspot.
Have you heard of Sniffspot? They call it the Airbnb for dogs. You can rent someone’s land (or yard) by the hour. We’re close to a place that has eight acres with three pastures all completely fenced in.
Before Nanook and Snowi came to live with me, they lived on 2.5 acres. Needless to say, it gives me great joy to watch them running until they are…dog tired.
Taking the time to let go and watch your dogs, or kids, or both cut loose and have a blast, is good for your soul. Any time you can feel carefree, be in nature, breathing in fresh air, smiling at the view that surrounds you and laughing at the antics of those you’re watching? It does a body good (even more than the old “Milk – it does a body good,” commercial).
Morning Whispers
Since you can’t do that every day, it’s a healthy practice to follow a morning (and evening) routine. One that helps you to establish your expectations for the day ahead of you.
Before we talk tools to do it, think about this… When you first begin to wake, what are the thoughts going through your mind? Are the first thoughts positive? Do you immediately get annoyed about the same thing that was bugging you before you went to sleep? Are you confident and excited, or worried and anxious? I heard it said quite well this week: What you’re conscious of, you create.
You see you have a choice what you think about and what emotional place you’re in. If it’s often negative, this morning practice will help. If it is positive, this practice makes it more powerful.
Choose to Be Intentional
When you’re intentional, you’ve established a far better path to achieving what you want to do, get done or have happen. It’s making a declaration about your expectations:
- I intend for traffic to flow smoothly
- I intend to arrive for my appointment on time/early
- I intend to have a successful outcome to…. (insert your scenario)
- I intend to eat healthy, drink water and get in a great workout today
Before you sleep, take a few minutes to review your day:
What did you enjoy most?
What would you like to continue to improve on?
What do you want to happen tomorrow?
Plant the seed in your subconscious before you sleep.
I’ve shared this many times and it’s worth repeating. When you first wake and as you’re drifting off to sleep, your subconscious mind is more receptive and your conscious mind is not as “on guard.” Meaning new thoughts, feelings and affirmations soak in easier. Your subconscious runs on feelings and images – it is not analytical; it is your autopilot feature. Fuel it wisely. It brings whatever you’re focusing on and feeling strongly about to your reality.
I start every day, with meditation, gratitude, affirmations and visualizations. It makes a difference!
Experiment with this. It feels better than waking up pissed off, focusing on every possible thing that can go wrong and worrying about it…until it does. Hey, sooner or later you’re gonna hit the jackpot of what you’re focused on.
How can I help and support you today?
