If I had a dollar for every time I’ve spoken with someone who was waiting for something to happen before they took action, I could support a lot of animal and arts programs.
“I want to finish school,” or “I want to lose ten pounds first,” or “Once the house remodel is done, in a couple of years, ” or “Once the kids are back in school—or off to college,” or the most frequently used and abused, “I’m just too busy, once my schedule slows down.”
What really are you waiting for? It’s not the excuse you made in the affor-mentioned paragraph. Is it the imagined experience of moving out of your comfort zone? Or is it just plain FEAR of something new, something different, something you haven’t done before? Are you concerned that you might fail on your first attempt and worried what others might think?
One of the biggest life teachers we have is all those failed attempt. If you are unwilling to fail, you limit your ability to create success. And although you may think that others will judge you, (and some may) there is a much bigger opportunity to be authentic…to be real.
The most successful people you know have struggled too at some point in their lives. There are those that live behind a façade and others that are willing to be honest. I’ve studied many people, read, watched and listened to countless biography’s—everyone had their low moments. So you have the opportunity to be brave, and come from the heart instead of letting EGO run the show.
EGO is what drives you to be right, to save face, to be overly competitive, to judge. Living from your heart is a much different existence. It is fueled by courage, fearlessness and a willingness to step forward and be yourself. How often do you let that happen?
Last week I shared the benefits of taking that dream vacation now vs. waiting. Today my goal is to encourage you to live life on a bigger level. To show up and be present each and every day. To embrace life full of meaning and to remember that there is more than the quest for more, better, bigger things.
This video is from my visit to the Glockenspiel in Munich. A bit wobbly—but it was way up there!
These bells ring every hour, when it’s time.
There are moments in each and every day to be lived, to be experienced, to be cherished. Do you know how to listen when they beckon you? It’s a skill set you may not have yet. It’s a muscle you can build over time as you exercise it more and more.
Last night for me it was a nudge to take a moment to run outside and give Niko one more big hug and belly rub before I went to sleep as he lay in the cool grass enjoying out-of-doors as he always does. This morning, it was taking a little longer walk to enjoy the beautiful blue Colorado sky, to soak up the sunshine and to be in gratitude for where my life is today. Sometimes it’s just the little things that connect you to the heart.
