Is your body trying to tell you something?

August 13, 2011

By Lori Hanson

Do you have persistent symptoms after eating or drinking certain things?

Do you ever tune in and notice the connection?

Is it bread, white bread, sugar, coffee or alcohol?

Does your body get bloated, do you get gas?

Acid reflux?

Our bodies are communicating with us on a regular basis–most people just don’t listen. They don’t want to change their habits so they go in search of a quick fix. Usually a prescription or over-the-counter fix. But that only puts a band aid on the problem. It doesn’t fix it.

Your body knows what it needs and also reacts strongly to things it doesn’t want. Do you get diarrhea or constipation? These are also very important messages tied to what you’re putting in–and hanging on to in your body. A great deal of what is available to eat in America really isn’t worthy of human consumption. But it’s what people flock to eat: burgers, fries, sweets, fried foods, fast food and don’t forget the steady stream of sugar and caffeine from sodas and coffee. All wreaking havoc inside your body and it will catch up with you.

Our bodies are designed to self-heal. They know just what we need to feel better. You just have to learn how to listen to what it’s saying and that’s an educational process. For example, many times when you think you’re hungry, you are actually thirsty. When your body doesn’t feel well, you may not be sick, you might just be dehydrated.

Your body may be screaming for good, solid WHOLE FOOD packed with a host of vitamins, nutrients and minerals that provide much needed energy, boost your immune system and overall health and well being. And–wouldn’t that feel better?

I wish I could learn to listen instead of skipping meals or deciding what I should eat based on calories. The problem is, how do I know what my body is telling me?
