As I completed my Vision Board with my plans, goals and dreams for 2018 there was a huge smile on my face. 2017 brought some incredible success and surprises my way. If I didn’t plan for them, and carefully set my sites in the direction I wanted to go it would be difficult to measure the level of success in all seven areas of my life.
I love this time of year. Reviewing the events of the past twelve months, having a personal victory party for things that went well and re-evaluating the things that didn’t happen to determine if they are still a priority or not.
How did your year end up? Did you achieve everything you set out to do? Did you exceed your goals, dreams and expectations—or did the goals you set at the beginning of the year shift because you were nudged, or pushed in a different direction?
With less than two weeks until my annual GPS to Success Seminar, all of these things are in the forefront of my mind. It’s all part of the process, understanding that you don’t have to have all the answers right now, today. One of the best analogies for goal setting and reaching them is remembering what it’s like to drive at night. Your headlights shine out about 200 yards, that gives you what you need to move forward, when you reach the end of those 200 yards you’ve already got illumination for the next 200, and so on until you reach your destination. It’s a matter of trusting the process.
With trust and unlimited thinking, you can reach anywhere you want to go. The only limits you have are the thoughts and beliefs you hold in your mind. The little whispers of what you can and can’t do that have been learned and digested over time based on your experiences.
What if this year you blast through and embrace unlimited thinking? How amazing would that be? It’s something I fully embraced last year and what happened was crazy, beyond my wildest dreams for 2017.
You’ve probably heard me speak about the financial face plant I did as a result of building my business to help people with eating disorders. Through the painful process of losing my home in California to a short sale and being one step away from homeless just three short years ago, I also found clarity, my purpose and abundance beyond my wildest imagination.
I did a lot of work on my financial beliefs, and it proved quite beneficial. In just 2.5 years I paid off a mountain of debt from starting my business. And I did it in 1.5 years sooner than I had planned. I thought that was a great accomplishment, but as I contemplated what I would visualize and achieve next, it was getting back into my own home. My first thought was that it was going to take a long time to save for a down payment.
Driving home from the high school graduation party for a good friend’s son in May, I noticed a new community. I stopped and went in to see the models and found one I really liked. There was a center cul-de-sac lot available. (Both of my other homes I owned were center cul-de-sac lots.) I wanted more elbow room and a bigger lot for the dogs. I started playing with numbers, and talking specifics and realized I had enough time to save for a down payment while I built a brand new home.
It was surreal at first. Everything that has happened while building this home has been one synchronicity after another. When things happen for your benefit that you just can’t explain—I call that confirmation.
Today, I’m thrilled to tell you that in early February, not only am I buying my own home after seven years, but a brand new home! Niko and Kiska will have a dog door and a big yard to run around in.
Yes, I had a house on my Vision Board last year, one I want to own that sits on 2 acres. But the Universe steered me into a different way to save the money to purchase that home; one that allows me to get off the treadmill and relax for a spell. In a place I’ve created, with finishes I selected an opportunity that was far better than I imagined, and horses in a field out my dining room window.
So when I tell you to let go of the outcome, to put your goals and intentions out there and not worry about HOW they will happen. This my friend is exactly what I mean. I am incredibly grateful for the journey and everyone that has helped me in the process of learning to thrive once again.
Now for 2018…I have some amazing goals and intentions, how about you? My hope is by sharing this very personal story, it will inspire you to ask for more. To create a better life than you think you can live, (a wonderful relationship, fulfilling work, a healthy body with boundless energy) and to expect only the best outcomes, no matter how dismal your outlook may appear today. It can change in an instant.
