Someone bumps into us and we say, “I’m sorry, excuse me.” We don’t hear someone call out our name and we say, “I’m sorry, I didn’t hear you.” None of these scenarios would be classified as wrongdoings, but women still feel the need to apologize.

I attended a professional women’s event last week to be a mentor to other working women. The program started with networking exercises to share new ways to start conversations with other people. One of the questions the leader asked was how many women have ever considered not taking a job because they didn’t think they could do it.
